background

Zarkis is the central character in an original narrative inspired by mythic origin stories, particularly those found in Greek mythology and fantasy literature. The project builds on "The Egg Story," a story I wrote, that establishes the character and world.

The story centers on a conflict between two groups, the Azarkans and the Amrans, whose names are drawn from the Arabic words for blue and red. This contrast informs both the thematic tension and the visual language of the work, shaping the palette and atmosphere of the scenes.

objective

Adapt a portion of the narrative into a short comic, translating a written story into a visual format. The focus was on selecting moments that could convey tone, atmosphere and character through composition and pacing rather than exposition.

Outcome

The comic focuses on two scenes drawn from the middle of the story, using them as a way to suggest a larger narrative without fully explaining it. Storyboarding was used to explore pacing, framing, and transitions between panels, helping shape how information is revealed visually.

Character poses and compositions were developed with the aid of reference material, ensuring clarity and consistency across panels. The visual treatment emphasizes mood and contrast, with a shift from a white to a dark gray background to better support the tone of the scenes.

Final artwork was produced digitally, with attention to how line, color, and layout work together to guide the reader through each sequence.

I used an AI-generated voice to narrate the entire story including the parts that are not depicted in the comic book scenes. If you're interested, you can listen to the audio file below.
